Rebuilding Strength
I had lost a great deal of strength and confidence after having had undiagnosed lupus for the prior two years. I couldn’t carry more than one gallon of water at a time and couldn’t carry a bundle of wood into the house at all. I had to walk carefully down the stairs every morning.
My husband and I agreed that 3 months with a personal trainer might help me to get some of my strength back. I think I might have asked about joining him in his fitness classes and he gently told me that I just did not have the strength to make it through one of his classes.
I wanted to work with a woman and ideally a woman who was close to my own age. I had tried personal trainers before who were 20-30 years younger than me and they inevitably treated me with barely disguised contempt. Katie treated me with kindness and caring, especially in the beginning when I could hardly do 3 jumping jacks. Katie never made me feel like I was a failure because I had to modify an exercise. She made me feel great about showing up. She cheered my efforts and hugged me when I cried from fear. Katie kept increasing my exercises incrementally and kept encouraging me during the workouts and with texts between workouts. Suddenly, one day, I found I could carry two gallons of water, one in each hand. Then, months later, I found I could carry four gallons of water, two gallons in each hand. There is never any chance of boredom while working out with Katie because no two workouts are ever the same
I never would have believed that this degree of increase in strength and energy was possible. I am astonished and profoundly grateful. My family is astonished and profoundly grateful.
The other day our oldest son was visiting. The last time he lived with us was during some of the worst of my illness. During this visit, he was sitting downstairs. I standing upstairs, realized I was late for something, and came running down the stairs. My son literally jumped up from the sofa and cried out, “MOM!” He came over to me, surprise and joy in his face, with literal tears in his eyes, and with the biggest smile he hugged me and said, “YOU JUST RAN DOWN THE STAIRS!” You see, pre-Katie, while our son was still living here, I could only carefully mince down the stairs, one stair at a time, leaning heavily on the railing. Now I can run. I had no idea that my son would be so moved by seeing me get healthier.
Working out with Katie has changed everything, just everything.

From Debra
Client With Chronic Neck Pain
I initially started seeing Katie because of chronic neck pain and headaches. I had been receiving chiropractic treatment at least once and up to eight times a month for over five years. The chiropractor helped tremendously but required ongoing treatments. Initially my goal was to strengthen my muscles, particularly my core to better support my neck and head but also to gain strength that I had lost over the last few years. After working with Katie just a few weeks, my chronic pain diminished and eventually was gone. I forgot that I had had it. After achieving my initial goal, I focused on new goals and chose to continue working with Katie – one of the best decisions I have made.
Working with Katie removed the obstacles that kept me from starting a comprehensive exercise program. I have been very active most of my life and never felt I needed a personal trainer. However, my life has become very busy making it difficult to find or develop a program that would work for me, meet my goals and most importantly get started. Katie’s knowledge and experience is so much broader than mine. Katie asks about my goals, what formats I like and don’t like. She uses this information to develop a program that works for me. The range of exercises in the program she develops for me enhances the depth and benefits of my workout sessions. They are well-rounded, include all muscle groups, balancing strength and endurance to achieve my goals. Having regular sessions scheduled helps keep me stay disciplined and accountable. All I do is show up.
Katie is a joy to work with, intuitive, down to earth, encouraging and has a great sense of humor.
